You and the other players in your group have slogged through a dungeon and spent all of your resources just to get to this point. All your characters’ hit points are dangerously low in this never-ending battle with the Red Dragon. Each side has traded blows and now it all comes down to this; the last turn of the party right before the Dragon will breathe down hellfire on the party and wipe you all out. It’s your turn. You’re in a prime position to land a killing blow. All you need to do is hit; your sneak attack damage is more than enough to end it. The GM just asked you to make the roll that will decide the future of your character and your party. Life and death is in the balance.

This is the moment that everyone at the table leans in to watch as the die settles on a NATURAL 20! The rest is history.

Playing online doesn’t have to lose the important moments at the table. Now with Roll20 Characters, you can roll from your character sheet and watch in anticipation as the result will show up for everyone at the table.

Even if you play remotely, shared dice rolls allow you and your friends to enjoy the history making rolls together.

One Log to Roll Them All

Before you ask, yes, the VTT has done this for a long time. We’re now adding this same functionality to Roll20 Characters so that when you’re playing outside the VTT, you can still share your rolls.

When you share your rolls with the group, everyone in the game will see your rolls whether they are on the VTT or on their character in Roll20 Characters. The rolls are synced so that everyone sees the same result, at the same time, and everyone can celebrate together. This allows you to play your way, directly on your character sheet or in the VTT and still share in those memories.

Keeping Track of Your Rolls

With the release of shared dice rolls on Roll20 Characters, we’ll also keep track of your old rolls so you can refer back to them when you forget your results. If you close your character and then come back to it, you’ll still be able to see the rolls you made in the past.

To start saving your dice roll results, add your character to a game and make a roll. It’s as simple as that.

Feedback and the Future

We’re continuing to improve Roll20 Characters in response to your feedback. At the moment, there are a couple directions we can go. We could focus on allowing you to share chat messages and whispers in Roll20 Characters, or we could start to improve our import process by making it easier to see characters in a game.

Ultimately, we want to hear your thoughts about what we should do next.

We’re always looking for ways to make it easier to have fun playing roleplaying games at the table or remotely. Your feedback is important in that process because it lets us know when we get it right, and when we need to improve. We released shared dice rolling primarily based on users like you that asked to be able to let others see their dice rolls.

Let us know how we can improve by submitting feedback using our feedback form.
