Add Your Characters to Your Games

Hey folks, we just launched some big updates to Roll20 Characters!

  1. Changes you make to your character sheets will sync instantly across the VTT and Roll20 Characters (our web-based character manager)!
  2. This includes updates to token bubbles such as changing HP and mana!
  3. Players can access shared compendiums directly from Roll20 Characters! Player’s can finally manage their characters outside the VTT whenever they want, without any coordination with the GM!
  4. You can even have your character sheet open in one tab and the VTT open in another, and everything will sync as expected.

To enable this feature, go to Roll20 Characters, then click the Add to Game button on your character sheet. Select the game to add that character to, and they will be completely connected.

More Details

Over the last month or more, we heard your feedback. The move function was not ideal and caused a lot of problems. With this new Add the Game feature, we’re hoping that it functions closer to what you would expect. Adding a character to a game, leaves that character in your list so that you can still access it while not in the VTT.

Fixing this issue was our top piece of feedback and the most detrimental to the user experience, but we still aren’t done. We still want your feedback. Let us know what you think about how we can continue to improve Roll20 Characters.

Our goal is to build Roll20 Characters into a hub for you to find, manage, and play your characters. We want you to feel like you have your characters at your fingertips at all times and you can take them with you when you play in person or if you’re playing in Theatre of the Mind.

We also want you to be able to use the content you’ve purchased or that your friends have purchased to play even when you’re not in the VTT. As we continue to improve Roll20 Characters, we hope that it will become the baseline digital tool for all your roleplaying games, no matter what system you are playing on or where you choose to play your games.

Our next focus will to continue to improve our character sheets. Currently in the VTT, we have over 1,200 character sheets. On Roll20 Characters, we support 13 today but more are coming!

On Feb 20th, we will release our newest sheet on Roll20 Characters, Cities without Numbers.

Character Sheet Voting

Also, we just released a way for you to vote on a sheet you might want us to release next. You can vote for your favorite Character sheets and rule systems by going to create a character and searching for the sheet you want to vote for. Also, you can vote straight from the character card in your list, if you’ve imported a character that uses a sheet that hasn’t been released yet. Go vote today and let us know which we need to release next!

Vote for the next Character sheet to be released.

Later this year, we’re hoping to release a whole new way to create character sheets that will make it easier for others to make and release their own character sheets on Roll20. There’s more to come so keep an eye out for that.

Thank you all again for your feedback. It truly helps us improve.
