UPDATE: As of September 17, 2024, the D&D Player’s Handbook (2024), is live on Roll20, along with the New D&D 5e (2024) Character Sheet & Builder! Learn more here!

We’re proud to announce that the new D&D 2024 character sheet and builder are now available in Beta in both the Roll20 Tabletop and Roll20 Characters

You can now play a game with your party using the Beta sheet, create characters quickly with the character builder, easily add gear to your sheet with drag & drop, and try out the new NPC sheet.

What’s New in Beta

Our team’s been hard at work to make Roll20 the best place to play D&D 2024 online:

New D&D Character Builder

With the character builder, character creation has never been easier. Roll20 walks you through the steps to creating a character, showing you options from all the content available to you. No need to manually copy and paste information from the compendium into your sheet.

Character Sheet Drag & Drop

One of the new and most requested features from the Alpha release is the ability to drag & drop items directly from the compendium onto your sheets. Add weapons, armor, and shields to the Beta character sheet and all the relevant details automatically populate on your sheet. More drag & drop options will be released throughout the Beta period, including spells and character abilities.

Robust NPC Sheets

A critical component of playing is having enemies to fight! Use the new NPC sheet to drag & drop monsters from the compendium to the Tabletop and run combat. Easily view key stats about a monster or NPC, roll initiative, and make attacks, all in a streamlined view dedicated to NPCs.

Ready-to-Play Characters

Jump into your D&D adventure with minimal prep using our collection of ready-to-play characters. These characters are also a great way to experience all that the PC sheet has to offer! You’ll be able to choose different levels of characters and try all of them out at level 1.

Sheet Updates: From Alpha to Beta

If you’ve checked out the sheet in Alpha, you’ll notice new features with Beta!

Since the beginning, customization is one of our top priorities for the new character sheet. You can now add your own modifiers to items: do you want to create a magical ring that grants you an ability score bonus, or gives you cold resistance, or both? Now you can add as many modifiers as you like to your items, and once they’re equipped, those bonuses will take effect!

In addition, we’ve expanded the different modifier options you have across the board – you can now add effects that adjust your skill bonus, initiative, HP maximum, and new defenses.

Roll20 has also been paying close attention to the valuable feedback from our players! We’re adjusting how you edit your ability scores to make it easier to adjust your base score (you’ll see further updates to other modals throughout the Beta as well!). The menu now offers easier navigation. We’ve also implemented a quicker way for you to adjust your proficiency level on skills. Just use the proficiency indicator to quickly choose your proficiency level!

All Road(maps) Lead to D&D 2024

There is still so much more to come between now and the full release in September (and beyond!).

Throughout the Beta period, we’ll provide frequent updates to the sheets and builder, fixing any bugs that arise and adding new features and functionality as they become available.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • More drag & drop support (spells, feats, features, etc.)
  • Additional steps within the builder to allow you to add equipment, choose ability scores outside the standard array, and a review screen
  • Updates to prepare for the launch of the D&D 2024 Core Rulebooks

Stay updated on new additions by checking the Change Log

Thank you so much to everyone that provided feedback throughout the Alpha period. As noted in our Alpha announcement, be aware that any characters created in the alpha won’t be available in the new sheet. Those characters you created will remain in Roll20 Characters, but won’t be updated to include the Beta functionality. However, any Beta characters you create from here out will be compatible with the full version of the sheet! We also want to continue to hear from all of you about any suggestions or bugs you may find while you check out all the Beta has to offer. Please continue to submit feedback and check out everything D&D 2024 on Roll20.

Our new D&D character sheet will support the new Player’s Handbook! Order now and get bonus monsters for your Roll20 table.
