A little over two years ago, we here at Roll20 invited our community to join us in a quest for a better tomorrow by launching a campaign to benefit Code2040 – a non-profit dedicated to eliminating racial disparity in the tech industry.

In our initial blog post kicking off the campaign, we pledged to match donations up to $50,000, with a determination to keep going until we reached that goal. We’re pleased to say that as of August 2022, we crossed that finish line and that together, we have donated $100,000 to help activate, connect, and mobilize the largest racial equity community in tech to dismantle the structural barriers that prevent the full participation and leadership of Black and Latinx people in the innovation economy.

From the inception of this campaign, it was important to us at Roll20 that we all did this, together, as a company and a community. As roleplayers, we know the importance of people coming together to take on an impossible obstacle, and this seemed no different. It’s been truly inspiring to see that donation amount slowly climb.

We just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who helped us cross the finish line on this, from paid GMs who donated proceeds from their games; to volunteers who ran very fun giveaways for us; to publishing partners who donated items and money; to members of our amazing community who chipped in amid a pandemic, economic uncertainty, and social unrest around the globe. Thank you. Know that you’re helping a great cause work toward a better future.

That being said, we’re not resting on our laurels here. Roll20 remains committed to making tabletop roleplaying a more diverse, inclusive space, with room for everyone at the table.

And as always: Thanks for playing with us.
