Big news, everyone: we’re excited to announce that the Roll20 Effects (FX) tool has been updated and is no longer restricted to paid GM accounts! Starting today, all users, player or GM, can access Effects via the beta of Roll20’s improved tabletop experience: Project Jumpgate.
Whether you’re a free user or a Pro subscriber, dazzling visual Effects will help bring your stories to life utilizing a brand-new user interface. Emit Fire Breath at an approaching monster, raise a Shield to protect your character in the heat of battle, launch an explosive missile at your enemy, and more!
Updates to Pre-Built Effects, Available to All Users
The pre-built Effects Library has been uplifted, unlocking new visual interactions and making existing ones look and perform better than before.
Create measured Effects, such as “fire breath,” with greater precision through a smooth and intuitive click-and-drag gesture, plus – easily specify the size, distance, and shape of each Effect, whether a cone, line, or beam. This update allows you to more accurately showcase a 60-foot Cone of Cold or breathe a 30-foot line of acid, something previously unattainable. Plus, aimed Effects now work on touch devices!
Advanced Features for Pro Subscribers
We’ve also introduced several new properties to control Effect particle scale, speed, and emission rate based on distance, giving Pro Subscribers more control via the creation of Custom Effects.
- Adjust the size, color, intensity, and other aspects of Effects to suit specific situations
- Use newly introduced properties to make Effect patterns truly unique
- Your Custom Effects are now available to all players in your game, regardless of their subscription level
- Combine multiple visuals into a single effect and witness an explosive missile travel at your enemy or create a nova explosion when reaching the target
You can also trigger Effects via Macros (text chat commands). Read more about Macros here.
