Since January 2025, we’ve been hard at work improving the Roll20 Character Sheet and Builder for D&D 2024, focusing on bug fixes and powerful new features. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new, what’s coming, and how it all helps make your gameplay smoother and smarter.

Data Overhaul: Smarter Sheets, More Automation

One of the biggest upgrades to the D&D 2024 sheet and builder is a complete rebuild of how our Compendium data works.

Historically, our legacy sheet limited what data could do. Now, our new structure empowers automation, simplifies gameplay, and gives you more control over character creation.

Let’s dive into some examples!

Optional Class Features (Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything)

You’ll now see Optional Features clearly marked when building your character—opt in or out as you choose. No more confusion or forced features!

Toll the Dead Automation

Casting Toll the Dead? Your sheet will now provides both options for damage dice so you can select one based on your target’s current HP. Less clicks, more immersion.

Perfume of Bewitching (Xanathar’s Guide)

This magic item now adds an effect directly to your sheet when used. Just toggle it on for the bonus and off when the effect ends—it even removes itself if you drop the item!

Books Currently Using the New Data:

  • Player’s Handbook (2014 & 2024)
  • Dungeon Master’s Guide (2014 & 2024)
  • Monster Manual (2014 & 2024)
  • Drizzts Travelogue of Everything
  • Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse
  • Frontiers of Eberron
  • Xanathar’s Guide to Everything
  • Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything

Builder Filters – Phase 1

By End of May/Early June, we plan to release new filters to help you quickly narrow down options in the Builder

Looking for a half-caster class? Want a background that boosts Strength? Now you can filter Classes, Species, and Backgrounds to find exactly what fits your build.
⚠️ Note: Filters only apply to content that uses the updated data model, but we’re adding more books every month! We will be keeping a help center article up to date so you know what books are supported!

Full-Screen Spell View

For all our high-level spellcasters: we heard you. The Spells tab was tough to manage with long lists and cramped views. That’s changing by the end of April!

What’s Coming:

  • Prepare/unprepare spells right from the main tab (no modal needed)
  • Toggle between all spells and prepared spells
  • Cleaner layout that makes better use of screen space

Full-Screen View Features:

  • Choose the spell info you want to see (Action Type, Hit DC, Range, etc.
  • Cast and track spell slots
  • Search and filter spells quickly
  • Switch between card view and list view

Launch directly into full screen with a click—or use Alt+Click / Option+Click

Your spell management just got a whole lot more magical!

We’re always listening, building, and improving based on your feedback. Stay tuned for more updates coming soon, and as always, thank you for adventuring with us.
