Add excitement to chases in Baldur’s Gate!

Skirt past hooded strangers in the Lower City’s Eastway, dodge an oversized peacock in the Outer City’s Stonyeyes, and avoid the attentions of a patriar’s bodyguard in the Manorborn district of the Upper City – or at least, try.

This supplement for D&D 5e (2024) includes 90 unique and entertaining chase complications, designed to capture the distinct characteristics of 21 areas of Baldur’s Gate. It includes random chase complication tables for:

  • 4 districts of the Upper City (Citadel Streets, Manorborn, Temples, and the Wide)
  • 6 districts of the Lower City (Bloomridge, Brampton, Eastway, Heapside, Seatower, and the Steeps)
  • The Outer City, with additional unique complications for the 10 neighbourhoods of the Outer City (Blackgate, Little Calimshan, Norchapel, Rivington, Sow’s Foot, Stonyeyes, Tumbledown, Twin Songs, Whitkeep, and Wyrm’s Crossing)
  • The distinctive landmark outside the gates, Dusthawk Hill.

In the Outer City of Baldur’s Gate, a tree has begun to bloom out of season. At the same time, rumors spread through the Outer City of people vanishing without a trace. The disappearances began roughly three tendays ago: the same time the strange bloom appeared. Oblivious to any connection, the residents turned their suspicions upon their neighbors, desperate to find a pattern. With the Flaming Fist focused on matters within the city proper, the plight of the Outer City’s poor draws little attention.

Rumors, resentment, and vigilante justice fester in the absence of authority. Desperate to find their loved ones, a few well-off citizens of the Lower City have begun hiring sellswords and adventurers to uncover the truth behind the vanishings. This is where the story begins.

The Gate’s Old Wound is a 5th-level investigative 2014 5e adventure for 3-5 players, set in the Outer City of Baldur’s Gate. It can be played as a standalone one-shot, a supplement, or a starting point for a larger campaign.

This supplement expands and offers alternate rules for the Bastions system in the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. It also offers a Baldur’s Gate flavoring to the Bastions. Take a look inside and build your own base within The Gate!

Baldur’s Gate is a city with troubles. It has been a haven for thieves, cutthroats, and murderers since the days before Balduran arrived, and down through the centuries its streets have seen blood, mayhem, and destruction in untold waves. The patriars – nobles of the city – insulate themselves against the worst, but few citizens have been spared the horrors which seem drawn to Baldur’s Gate like flies to a corpse.

Recently, Baldur’s Gate has seen a rise in unnatural, illicit activity through the machinations of a group called the Cult of the Dead Three. This cult venerates three fallen deities – Bane, god of tyranny; Bhaal, god of murder; and Myrkul, god of death. Each of their respective divine portfolios have been taken over by other deities, but their memories and dogmas are kept alive thanks to the fervent dedication of groups like the Cult of the Dead Three.

The Flaming Fist who maintain order in Baldur’s Gate have their hands full with criminal gangs, floods of refugees, and the never-ending calls of the patriars, all of which leaves the Cult of the Dead Three freer to operate in secret. However, the recent discovery of the remains of a fanatical tyrant from the city’s distant past threatens to push Baldur’s Gate further into chaos as each disparate faction of the Dead Three fight for dominance. Unless stopped, the city will suffer grave consequences.

Baldur’s Gate: Razing of Three Graves is a 6-to-8-hour Dungeons & Dragons adventure set in Baldur’s Gate, an independent city on the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms. The adventure is designed for a party of four to six 4th-level characters, but can be easily adjusted to accommodate groups of different size or level.

The adventure can easily be inserted into a Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus campaign as well.

Just outside of Baldur’s Gate, within the Outer City, is a walled community called Little Calimshan. This thriving little city is self-sustaining and has no interference from Baldur’s Gate governing Council of Four or the powerful Guild.

  • Descriptions and rumor tables for four notable locations within Little Calimshan, including the Oasis Theater (featured in Descent Into Avernus), Frigate’s Landing inn, the alluring trade market called the Warren, and a temple outside the city that caters to immigrants called Green Hill Temple
