We are teaming up with incredible indie creators to celebrate the arrival of the new Monster Manual and all the new storytelling opportunities it offers by gifting a collection of exclusive tokens, maps, animations, and one-shot adventures to players who purchase the D&D 2024 Core Rulebook Bundle on Roll20. This is our final week of exploring what changes have been made to the four iconic creatures we’ve curated bonus collections around and chatting with the creators who have partnered with us on them. The last bonus, available this week, is the Mimic Mansion collection, which players have until February 18 to order and unlock. We’ve got just one week left, so act fast!
The new Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual makes several a few updates to mimics compared to the 2014 version – including some new lore about their habitats. Let’s have a look at some of the differences in the 2025 version of this creature.

The 2025 Monster Manual introduces notable updates to the mimic including:
Enhanced Lore: The new edition mentions these monstrosities habitats are usually in the Underdark or in in urban spaces. The new Monster Manual gives lots of ideas for what types of objects a mimic might emulate, and explores their origins and behavior patterns, providing richer context for their interactions with adventurers.
Updated Stat Blocks: Mimic stat blocks have been streamlined for clarity, making it easier for Dungeon Masters to manage their adhesive properties and shape-shifting abilities during encounters. Most of its abilities have been organized by action type to help simplify choices in combat, while retaining all the original notes 2014 mimics hit. The new mimics have a little more speed, so experienced adventurers should watch out!
Updated Art: We see mimics taking a variety for forms in the new Mimic Art. Look a little closer to see just how many variants you can spot! The new Monster Manual even has a long suggested list of different shapes mimics can take.

This book is just full of opportunities for Dungeon Masters to present to their players fresh challenges.
Mimics are one of the most iconic creatures in Dungeons & Dragons, inspiring all sorts of trickery around the table. If mimics can be objects… why not go big and make an entire MIMIC MANSION… filled with items that may or may not also be mimics. Adventuring dream or nightmare? We’ll let you decide as we dig into the details of each item, and catch up with their creators!

What was your thought process when creating this particular offer for the marketplace?
I have always enjoyed folk takes, and the story of Baba Yaga’s hut always stood out to me. So I thought of creating a typical looking mansion and turning it into a terrifying mimic.
Do you have any particular memories or experiences with this type of monster you want to share with the community from your own table?
I have not used this in my games yet, but I have heard for other people who used it that it gave their players trust issues.
What inspired you to start creating maps/tokens?
I started creating maps for my homebrew games during the pandemic, and realizing that people seemed to liked them, launched my Patreon!
What do you think is unique about your style and what tone do you hope to set at the table?

What is unique about my style is that I like to incorporate traditional settings for encounters (such as a mansion), and add a special twist to it (by making it a mimic)! Blending these two elements make memorable encounters.
What things are you most curious and/or excited about as the new Monster Manual for D&D 2024 arrives?
I’m excited to see all of the new art that was drawn for the monsters!
What is your favorite item you’ve listed on our marketplace and why?
My favorite item that I’ve listed is the Monster Ships bundle, which features ships used by monsters such as undead, vampires, and dragons.
Assorted Mimic Tokens by Creature Forge

This token set includes 12 bordered tokens and 11 top down variants for objects disguised as mimics. These would make incredible multisided tokens to hide around your maps for unexacting adventurers to discover. They may never trust you again, but they will be impressed! Let’s hear more from Creature Forge.
What was your thought process when creating this particular offer for the marketplace?
Mimics are such a fun subject to design. There’s an endless opportunity for creativity with a monster that can disguise itself as objects. What does a teapot that wants to kill you look like? If a table had a mouth, where would that mouth be? How can I give this chair teeth? Those are the kinds of questions I was asking myself when creating these tokens.
Do you have any particular memories or experiences with this type of monster you want to share with the community from your own table?
I don’t personally have any experiences with mimics, but my partner is a prolific DM whose players accidentally climbed down a well mimic and ended up having to fight it both inside and out.
What inspired you to start creating maps/tokens?
Making tokens is great motivation to practice and improve my artistic ability and be able to share my work with other people! I love the idea of my artwork contributing to other people’s tabletop gaming experiences.
What do you think is unique about your style and what tone do you hope to set at the table?

I want my tokens to be fun and have personality, and I use my experiences with character design to do this. I try to make each token bold and unique while still reading properly as a small image on a virtual tabletop. With the rise of AI image generation, I believe it’s more important than ever to offer players and DMs human-made artwork infused with human creativity.
What things are you most curious and/or excited about as the new Monster Manual for D&D 2024 arrives?
As someone who loves designing creatures, I’m most excited about seeing the new monsters being added to the 2024 Monster Manual, as well as new art of existing monsters and old favorites.
What is your favorite item you’ve listed on our marketplace and why?
My favorite item would have to be this mimic set. It was just so much fun to do and I have a soft spot for these weird critters.
We hope you’ve enjoyed our last spotlight on the marketplace creators who have contributed to our bonuses for the D&D 2024 Core Rulebook Bundle. We are so grateful to every single one of them for sharing their time and talent with the community as a part of this effort and we hope you’re inspired go check out the rest of they have to offer.
Next week we’ll be returning to each of these articles with an updated look at the new stat blocks for these creatures. Until then, happy adventuring!
