With the recently remastered Curse of Strahd, some folks are asking
“Can I update my game mid-campaign???”
Good news.. YES!
First, where to find Curse of Strahd remastered

If you already own Curse of Strahd, it’s free! This remaster is available as an addon in your Roll20 library. You can add the product into any game right from the game details page, under addons! You can also start a new game with this addon right from the product page, or from your Shop -> My Items page!
Now, How to Update your game mid-campaign
If you are already in a Curse of Strahd campaign, you should not add this addon on top of that game without preparation first. It will overwrite your previous changes! There are two ways to update your campaign safely!
- Create a new game, install the new addon, and then transmogrify (pro feature) your characters and custom entries from your previous game into your new game. This is the most straightforward method.
- However, if that route doesn’t meet your needs, or don’t have access to transmogrify, here’s how our community member u/ZarathustraEck updated their groups campaign, and shared the process with everyone.
Step 1. Back up your campaign first
Before doing anything, create a full backup copy of your campaign. Just to be safe.
Step 2. Make copies of any pages you want to preserve
Go through your campaign and create copies of any pages, handouts, or NPCs where you’ve made changes you want to keep. This includes pages with moved tokens, opened doors, custom lighting, DM notes, edits, or changes to anything. These copies will survive the update untouched. Pages you don’t copy will be overwritten by the new addon version.
Step 3. Import the Curse of Strahd remastered addon into your copied game
From your Game Details page, expand the Game Addons section, find Curse of Strahd Remastered, and click Add to Game.
One caveat: If you’ve already added manually added Map pins into your game, those might be overwritten by this update. Everything else should be fine.
Big thanks to u/ZarathustraEck for testing this thoroughly and sharing the results with the community!
