Insights from Keith Baker
To give you a deeper look into the creation of Frontiers of Eberron, we spoke with Keith Baker about what makes this expansion truly special:

What inspired the creation of Frontiers of Eberron?
Keith Baker: There were three main goals. First, we wanted to zoom in and explore a smaller region in greater depth, rather than covering vast swaths of Eberron. Second, we wanted to create a fully realized starting point for a campaign outside of Sharn, with an adventure that spans five levels. Finally, we wanted to blend Eberron’s unique magical setting with the themes of a classic Western—exploring frontier justice, outlaws, and the blending of cultures between Breland and Droaam.
Why is Quickstone such an exciting setting?
Keith Baker: Droaam flips traditional D&D assumptions on their head. In this frontier region, minotaurs, medusas, harpies, and goblins aren’t just monsters—they’re building a nation. Meanwhile, Quickstone is a lawless border town where no single power holds sway, making it a perfect setting for high-stakes adventure and duels at high noon.
What are some of the standout character options?
Keith Baker: One of the most exciting things about this book is the opportunity to play characters that would traditionally be considered monsters. We’ve included new rules for playing harpies, gargoyles, medusas, gnolls, and worgs—complete with cultural backgrounds and unique abilities. We’ve also expanded on wandslinging, making it a more integral part of the world with feats, subclasses, and even arcane dueling mechanics.
What makes Frontiers of Eberron unique?
Keith Baker: Wandslinging is a major focus of this book. Magic is a part of everyday life in Eberron, and wands, rods, and staffs are used the way firearms are in Westerns. We’ve introduced new mechanics to differentiate between magical focuses, a wandslinger background, and arcane duels to capture that tense, high-noon showdown energy.
What are your top three favorite magic items in this expansion?
Keith Baker: The Misthaven Miscellany, an endless supply of trinkets; the Flashdraw Wand, perfect for the fastest wand in the West; and the Thunder Coach, which lets you experience the caravans of House Orien in a whole new way.
