It’s been an exciting month for the team tasked with bringing Roll20 directly to your Discord server. We’ve been hard at work building an experience that provides seamless access to your favorite games in Discord with just a few clicks. Our Pro Subscribers have exclusive early access to our private beta server and have been testing the Activity by playing before the full rollout for all users (coming in the next couple of months). You can learn more about the Discord Pro beta, including how to access the server here.
I thought the beta would be missing stuff like audio and map editing but NOPE I CAN DO EVERYTHING 🤯
Virtual Tabletop Tech will never be the same!

Beta Updates
Let’s chat about how that beta is going! Since launching, more than 3000 users have linked their Discord and Roll20 accounts, and have spent over 50,000 minutes playing in 400+ unique campaigns! This ranges from individuals experimenting in their games solo, to entire groups in a Discord call together. It’s awesome to see so many folks filling the server with their friends playing on Roll20 inside Discord!

Thanks to our testers’ feedback, we’ve crushed 20+ bugs inside the Activity, streamlined user flows, and even added a few future improvements to our roadmap to make the experience even better. These are just a few of the refinements we’ve made in the last month:
- Optimized Image Delivery to ensure images always load correctly
- Improved asset loading to increase the Activity’s performance and load time
- Tweaked the layout to make more effective use of available real estate in the Activity
- Streamlined and fixed issues with Roll20 <> Discord account linking
…. Plus, we’ve released many smaller miscellaneous fixes for Characters, Card Decks, the Art Library, and more! The Roll20 Tabletop is a big platform, with lots of features, and our Pro Subscribers have been positively invaluable in helping spotlight all the nooks and crannies where strange interactions in the Activity needed some love.
Of course, some things are still yet to be done; for example, the new Compendium Panel is still unavailable inside the Activity, and we’re working hard on a solution for the lack of pop-out functionality for Character Sheets and Handouts in the VTT… But, by and large, the Tabletop is fully functional and operates just how you’d expect, right inside Discord!

What’s Next?
For now, as we await the public release, the Pro Subscriber beta will continue; exclusive to our private Roll20 Discord Server. The server can be accessed by following the instructions in this Pro Forum Post (accessible only to Pro subscribers). If your GM is a Pro subscriber, they can provide you with an invite link. We encourage all testers to continue to share feedback and help us build the best experience possible.
We’ll have more details available as our public rollout approaches, but the short version is this: once the Discord Activity is live for all, you’ll be able to start your own instance of the Roll20 Tabletop inside of Discord, no matter your subscription level or what server you are using. Roll20 will just be a few clicks away! The experience really is seamless, and we can’t wait for you to get your hands on it.
