My name is Mik Holmes, and I’m a Content Producer at Roll20! My team converts TTRPGs into ready-to-play content for the virtual tabletop by transforming the information found in books into cross-linked compendium and journal entries, creating tokens and handouts from page art, building out maps into pages featuring Dynamic Lighting, Doors, and Windows, and adding quality-of-life features for GMs and players like Macros, Rollable Tables, and Token Actions.

Auril, the Frostmaiden, reaches out toward from the depths of a wintry scene, flanked by wolves.

In 2020, our team converted Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, a spectacular Dungeon & Dragons adventure set in and around the Ten-Towns of the Far North. This iconic book eases players into their campaign via a sandbox-style introduction, allowing them to explore, meet new people, and solve towny problems, all before the reveal of the… well, we won’t spoil it here!

We’re proud to announce that we’ve remastered the original Rime of the Frostmaiden to include updated features and improved quality.

In addition to the the main storyline, Rime of the Frostmaiden boasts multiple potential endings based on your choices and tons of fun NPCs and enemies to meet and fight respectively. From baby griffons to gnome mindflayers, you’ll find both and much much more in this epic quest!

Some of the upgrades you’ll find in the Remastered Rime of the Frostmaiden include:

Page Folders

We’ve collected maps into folders by chapter, making it easier to find what you’re looking for. The Tree View allows you to quickly navigate between your folders and sub-folders; you can also drag and drop a page to move a page into a folder.

You can learn more about the Page Folders update and how to utilize them along with the Party Toolbox here.

Page folders on the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop include thumbnail previews of folders and a tree view in a left side panel.

Visual Upgrades

Art handouts are at a higher resolution. Whenever possible, we’ve created a new “pop-out” style for tokens, making them more dynamic than ever! We’ve used multi-sided Rollable Tokens for creatures like commoners with many additional tokens, so places like taverns have more personality.

A gridded map on the Virtual Tabletop features several doors and GM notations.

Doors, Windows, and One-way Dynamic Lighting

Everywhere there’s a door on the map, there’s a Roll20 Door that players can open by themselves (that is, if it’s unlocked — there are also secret doors they can’t see!).

One-way Dynamic Lighting walls are used in several places to indicate elevation; people up the top of a cliff can see everything below, but those on the bottom can’t see up.

Quality-of-Life Tweaks

Token actions on all NPCs allow GMs to quickly roll an attack or save without opening a token’s character sheet. Improved macros, now linked in the text, allow instant random table rolls. We’ve also spruced up our cross-linked handouts to be even more useful for GMs to find what they need for any encounter quickly.

Several monster tokens are placed across an icy battlemap on the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop.
